The Painting and the Elevator Fund
We would like to thank the Veteran in the painting, Jack Cockrell for his past and continuing contributions to the region. He served
as a Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps in Normandy
during the Second World War. A Legion member for over 46 years,
Jack worked with a committee and Victoria Mayor Alan Lowe to construct
the Wall of Remembrance in the new Save On Food Memorial Arena.
He also organized a Provincial ceremony for the Tomb of the Unknown
Soldier.
Fund raising will commence with the sale of this artwork and in
the future another one called "Drummer". Both paintings
have a Legion theme: "Remembrance" is a painting of WWII veteran
Jack Cockrell and "Drummer" is Mathew Dawe, a drummer in the Sooke
Pipes & Drums.
Local artist Linda Gordon painted the pictures and will donate a
percentage of the sale of the original as well as 100% of the profits
from the sale of the limited edition reprints and art cards to the Legion Elevator Fund. Cards and reprints available at the Legion Bar.

Brent Straughan, a composer and musician will be selling
his CD called "Song of Flanders" with a significant
portion of the sale going to the Elevator Fund and the Sooke
Pipes & Drums. The CD is available at the Legion or contact
Brent at www.SongofFlanders.com
Other groups in the community will be holding special events
to fundraise for this cause- if you or a society you are a
member of would like to contribute, we would welcome your
input. Phone 642-4572.
We will be having other fund raising events, and invite you to attend
our "round table" info meetings-
